A single barrel is one cask, bottled exactly as it was found. Nothing blended in to round it out, nothing to average away a rough edge. Whatever happened during its time in cask is carried into the bottle - that is the beauty of a single barrel. It is also why most casks never go out this way.
BDX250301 was filled in March 2025 and pulled nearly twelve months later, in March 2026. The name is its history written plainly: Bordeaux, March of ’25, barrel number one - “250301.”
The cask itself came from Château Pape Clément in Bordeaux and was already on its third life with us. Two batches of our Héritage Blanco had rested there before it. By the third fill, there was less wine and less barrel to speak of. What remained was subtler: a little softness and roundness, and enough room for the agave to say what it wanted to.
We also bottled its sibling, BDX250302, alongside it. The two barrels traveled nearly identical paths, and there is a clear family resemblance between them: both lean heavily into cooked agave, with the barrel playing a quieter supporting role. But that is part of what makes single barrels interesting. Even two casks filled at the same time, with the same tequila, and treated almost identically can arrive somewhere slightly different.
250301 is beautiful. Cooked agave, florals, and light citrus arrive first, followed by pepper, herbs, and a touch of sweetness. The barrel adds roundness and a hint of vanilla and stone fruit, but never takes over. The finish is long and agave-driven.
Taken together, 250301 and 250302 are a nice look at what we love about these later-fill Bordeaux barrels: less about the oak, and more about what a supporting cast of flavors can do to highlight the agave.
